Trustee, Chairman
VP of Engineering
Cisco Systems
Anthony Schoener is the newest member of the RSRT Board of Trustees, but he is not new to Rett Syndrome. His interest in the disorder is personal as his 18-year-old daughter, Kelly, is afflicted. Tony and his wife, Kathy, have been closely monitoring the science of Rett for over a decade. Their decision to engage at the board level at this time is a reflection of the urgency and the optimism surrounding the potential for treatments and a cure. The Schoeners recently made a $1 million gift to RSRT to launch the MECP2 Consortium.
Tony has worked in the telecommunications field for over 25 years. He
graduated from Penn State with a degree in computer science. After working for several network access solution companies in 2000 he co-founded Starent Network Corporation, a leading supplier of IP-based mobile infrastructure solutions for mobile and converged network operators. The company, which is based outside of Boston, went public in 2007 and was subsequently sold to Cisco Systems in late 2009. Tony is currently Vice President of Engineering at Cisco, a position he also held at Starent.
Tony assumed the position of Chairman of the RSRT Board of Trustees in 2012.
Tony and Kathy have three children and live in Southborough, MA.
